Authorities in Illinois have arrested a 19-year-old self-described white supremacist after a planned mass attack at a Hindu temple failed. The suspect allegedly attempted to open fire at a temple in Aurora near Chicago on Saturday, but his rifle jammed. Police apprehended him on Sunday outside his home in Palatine after a brave co-worker alerted law enforcement about the terrifying plot.

What Happened?

Prosecutors revealed that 19-year-old Alexandros Paporakis had been planning a violent hate attack for nearly two years. On Saturday, Paporakis traveled to a Hindu temple in Aurora, located about 70 kilometers from Chicago, with the intent to murder innocent worshipers. However, when he pulled the trigger, his firearm jammed, preventing a major disaster. Paporakis fled the scene quickly, but later contacted a co-worker from a fast-food restaurant to describe his actions.

During a phone call, Paporakis admitted to his co-worker that he tried to execute a mass shooting but fled superfast after his weapon malfunctioned. He also sent the co-worker a picture of himself wearing tactical gear and shared an eight-page document titled Why I Fought: A.K.A.: (Aurora Shooter’s Manifesto). The alert co-worker immediately notified local police in Mount Prospect, who passed the crucial information directly to Palatine authorities.

Police officers arrested Paporakis outside his home on Sunday without incident. A detailed search of his residence revealed a powerful rifle, loaded magazines, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and heavy body armor featuring white supremacist symbols. On Wednesday, Paporakis appeared in county court in Rolling Meadows, where he was charged with making a terrorist threat and unlawful possession of weapons. A judge ordered him held in custody without bond until his next court date on October 30.
