Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu held an urgent teleconference with senior state officials and District Collectors to review the severe impact of Cyclone Murasu. The storm recently made landfall near Ongole, bringing heavy rainfall, uprooting trees, and disrupting vital infrastructure in multiple coastal districts. Chief Minister Naidu directed all authorities to work on a war footing to prevent any loss of life and quickly restore essential services like drinking water, power, and road connectivity. He also urged the public to stay alert and follow government advisories until the weather system fully subsides.

What Happened?

Cyclone Murasu struck the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh near Ongole, leaving a trail of disruption across several districts. State officials briefed Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu during the review meeting that continuous downpours caused widespread waterlogging in agricultural fields across Nellore district. Strong winds uprooted heavy trees, blocking critical roads and interrupting daily movement. Major power outages were reported in Palnadu, Markapur, and Guntur districts, where repair teams are currently working to restore electricity.

The Chief Minister highlighted that although the cyclone's impact is expected to subside by the night of November 3, 2026, the upcoming hours remain critical. Heavy rainfall is expected to persist in several regions, including Bapatla, Guntur, Prakasam, Palnadu, Krishna, NTR, Eluru, and West Godavari districts. Administrative teams across these areas have been instructed to remain on high alert to tackle localized flooding and emergency situations.

Special focus has been directed toward Prakasam and Bapatla districts, which bore the severe brunt of the storm. Chief Minister Naidu praised the initial mitigation efforts undertaken by local administrative teams but insisted that restoration activities must be accelerated. Priority is being given to restoring power grids, clearing blocked transport routes, securing drinking water supplies, and ensuring safety in low-lying residential areas.
